EDUCATION

2010 – 2013 - PhD in Computer Science at the Department of Information Engineering of the University of Parma (Italy). Early Stage Researcher within the 7th Framework Program Marie Curie Initial Training Network MIBISOC: Medical Imaging using Bio-Inspired and Soft Computing (GA n. 238819). Supervisor: Stefano Cagnoni. PhD Thesis focused on the automatic segmentation of anatomical structures in biomedical images using Soft and Bio-Inspired Computing.

2010 – Postgraduate Degree in Bioinformatics: Genomics and Structural Biology (750 hours / 30 ECTS). Open University of Catalonia (UOC). Final Mark: A (Excellent).

2009 – MSc in Computer Science. University of A Coruña (UDC). Master Thesis: “Optimization and Analysis of the Performance of Artificial NeuronGlia Networks”. Supervisor: Dr. Ana Belén Porto (UDC) and Oscar Ibañez (European Center for Soft Computing). Final mark: 10.0/10.0. Carrying out a comparative research between Artificial Neuron-Glia Networks and Artificial Neural Networks when solving classification problems, as well as the design and implementation of an optimization method for glial parameters using Cooperative Co-Evolutionary Genetic Algorithms.

 

EMPLOYMENT HISTORY

July 2010 – July 2013. Marie Curie Researcher at the IBISlab (Intelligent Bio-Inspired Systems laboratory) in the University of Parma. Member of the Network Supervisory Board of the MIBISOC Project (Medical Imaging using Bio-Inspired and Soft Computing). Teaching Assistant at the Department of Information Engineering.

February 2010 – May 2010. Research Assistant in the ATIS Group (Advances in Telemedicine and Health Informatics) of the University Hospital Complex of A Coruña.

May 2006 – December 2007. Researcher at the RNASA group (Artificial Neural Networks and Adaptive Systems) for the Research Service of the University Hospital Complex of A Coruña working on medical image registration.

2012 – September and October (2 months). Two-month research stay at the Applications of Fuzzy Logic and Evolutionary Algorithms research unit under the supervision of Dr. Sergio Damas. European Centre for Soft Computing. Spain.

2011 – October and November (2 months). Two-month research stay at the Computational Imaging laboratory of the School of Computer Science under the supervision of Dr. Li Bai. University of Nottingham. United Kingdom.
